From Cleveland, to Alaska, to Santa Fe, and back to Providence—arts leaders and funders reflect on a moment when they pivoted to the local by taking deeper looks at their neighborhoods, engaging community dynamics, and tackling social and environmental challenges. They are both known for their challenging writing, Eriksson taking on polluters and the boom-and-bust psychology that fouls oceans and forests, Geddes going after the killers at Kent State University, racist and colonial practices in Canada and abroad, and the rise of militarism disguised as peace-keeping.  The 49 Writers Crosscurrents series presents onstage conversations that unite authors and audiences through lively, moderated discussions on questions pertaining to art, culture, and science as illuminated by writers and their work. 49 Writers is a statewide literary nonprofit that supports the artistic development of writers throughout Alaska, fosters a writing community, and builds an audience for literature.
